Family secrets never stay buried… especially when magic runs in the blood.

Patience O’Reilly thought she’d finally found peace in her strange little life of wishes, secrets, and second chances. But when her estranged sister Matilda arrives in town carrying old grudges, dangerous charm, and far too many unanswered questions, Patience’s carefully balanced world begins to crack.

Their father was once a powerful man—until grief, obsession, and his own failures tore their family apart. Now whispers from the past are surfacing, and Matilda seems determined to uncover truths Patience would rather leave buried.

As jealousy sparks between the sisters and long-hidden family wounds reopen, Patience must decide who she can trust before old magic and bitter resentments destroy everything she’s built.

Because some wishes heal…
And some divide families forever.

Lucky lifted his head from his bed beside the heater and groaned, right before a knock at the door. He groaned. “Tell me that’s not who I think it is.”
I stared toward the front door. Three more knocks. Impatient and loud.
The tingle in my palm flared. And my heart sank. “Oh no.”
Lucky sat up, ears twitching. “Yep. That’s family.”
“You don’t know that,” I said, in denial.
He gave me a look. “Patience, I’m a terrier. Reading suspicious situations is practically a hobby.”
I rubbed my hand against my jeans, hoping the tingle would lessen. It didn’t. I’d felt it on and off since Christmas. Not painful. Just familiar and irritating enough to keep me unsettled.
Wintergreen, bright sparks, and memories I hadn’t invited back.
My sister.
I loved Matilda. That was true. I also found her exhausting and…irritating. In equal measure.
Lucky trotted toward the door, toenails clicking across the floorboards. “She could’ve called,” he muttered.
“She may have,” I said sheepishly as I followed him.
“You ignored her again?”
“Possibly.”
“You’re hopeless when it comes to Matilda. Of course she would come if you ignored her.”
I snorted, just as the knocking came once more. Blowing out a breath I reached for my cardigan hanging over the kitchen chair.
Matilda and I hadn’t lived in the same city for years, and honestly, there were days that felt like a blessing. We were sisters, but that was where most of the similarities ended.
I preferred peace. Matilda preferred a little chaos. Our childhood had taught us both different ways to survive, and somewhere along the line those differences became sharp edges.
Lucky stopped at the door. Then he went oddly quiet.
That worried me more than the knocking. “What?”
His nose twitched. “Well,” he said slowly, “that’s interesting.”
The tingle in my palm spread right up my arm. “What is?”
Lucky looked back at me. “She didn’t come alone.”
My stomach dipped.
